The Corner is Now Open!!!

  

Join us today, December 9th, at 3PM for the Grand Opening of The Corner, our new Teen Space!

There will be internet computers, a 52" flat screen tv hooked up with a 360 Elite and Wii, a graffiti art wall, computer animation software, digital camera and camcorder, diner style seating, free food... and of course, books!

New Teen Librarian

Hi everyone!  My name is Christen and I am the new Teen Librarian at the Vogelson (aka Voorhees) Branch of the Camden County Library.  I have been with the library system now for 2 1/2 years.  First, as an intern, then as the Children's Librarian at our Gloucester Township Branch, and now as your Teen Librarian!  I am sooooo excited to be here! 

A little bit about me... I love to read, hang out with my friends, play with my dog, and dance!  I'm pretty talkative, so if you're ever by the Children's Desk, feel free to come over and chat me up.  Oh... and my two most favorite things to eat... sushi and Cold Stone Creamery!  Mmmmmmm!!!

I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you real soon.  Keep your eyes open for our brand new Teen Advisory Board, Teen and Tween Book Clubs, and some all around fantabulous programming!

Camden County Animal Shelter Needs Your Donations

In keeping with the summer reading theme of “Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales,” the Vogelson Branch will be collecting items the Camden County Animal Shelter. You can help out the animals by bringing in any of the items listed!

Items needed:

Used blankets and towels
Cat Litter
Kitten and Puppy Chow
Cat and Dog Food
Dish Soap
Laundry Detergent
Paper Towels
Hand Soap
Rubbing Alcohol/Hydrogen Peroxide
Paper Plates
Latex Gloves - Large
Brooms
Trash Bags
Leashes
Manila File Folders, Pens and Office Supplies (slightly used is okay)
Legal Sized Hanging File Folders (used is okay)
Copier Paper

Collection bins are in the lobby at Vogelson and in the Children’s Department.

Summer Reading Lists Available on Library Website

The summer reading lists from local high schools and middle schools have been added to the library website. Don't want to think about school when vacation has just started? The lists will be up all summer. But don't wait till the week before school starts! There's a great rush on the titles then, and we often don't have any copies left on the shelves. Book sale at Vogelson

Now that summer vacation is almost here, you'll have some time to read, watch videos and listen to music. Stock up at the Friends of the Library's giant book sale on Friday and Saturday at our Vogelson branch (directions).

There will be over 20,000 books of all types, CDs, videos, books-on-tape, LPs, magazines, and more. Prices range from 50 cents to $3.00.

Dates and Times:

Friday, June 9: 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.
Saturday, June 10: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Two great programs at the Haddon Township Branch

The Haddon Township will be hosting two great programs for teens this Tuesday, April 25th. Are you interested in writing? At 4 p.m. come to our "Basics of Writing" program. Learn the ins and outs of becoming an effective communicator from a high school newspaper editor who will reveal her secrets.

Think you might like an internship? At 7 p.m. Tuesday night you can see a presentation by the president of Jersey Intern.com. Find out about the great internships available both locally and nationally and how to get one.

New feature in our online catalog

Hi, all.

Have you ever checked out a book at the library and really liked it, but then forgot the title or author when you wanted to recommend it to someone else? Have you come across a book or video, and you're not sure if you've read or seen it before? Then you should try the new Reading History feature in our catalog.

Go the catalog, choose "View Library Record," then enter your name and library barcode. In addition to seeing what you have checked out and the status of your requests, you can now choose to see your reading history. Click on "Opt in" and the library will keep a record of what you've checked out, starting with the next checkout. You can edit the list or delete it at any time.

Come to the next Teen Advisory Meeting!

Join us in December for a teen advisory meeting. Our new Gloucester Township Branch group, SLAG (Student Library Advisory Group), will meet on Friday, December 9 at 4 p.m. Tell us what things you want to see and do in the library. Refreshments will be served! Call 856-228-0022 to learn more.

If you live closer to the Winslow high school and junior high, come to the next meeting at the South County Branch (right across the street!) on Tuesday, December 13 at 6:30. We'll be having a TAB (Teen Advisory Board) meeting and holiday party. Bake two dozen of your favorite cookies and bring them to the party.
