PINs Are Coming

On July 7th our catalog and computers will require you to use a PIN (personal identification number) to view your library account information, request or renew items, use self-checkout or sign up for a computer.

Why?

PIN numbers will provide additional security for your library account.

How will this work?

On July 7th, CamCat will prompt you to create a PIN number when you attempt to log on to My CamCat, view your library record, request or renew an item, or use self-checkout.

  • Your PIN must be four digits long.
  • Choose a number that is easy for you to remember.
  • Write down your PIN in a safe place – you  will need it EVERY TIME you log into your library record.

SAM, our computer reservation system, will also ask you for your library card PIN number.  If you are not eligible for a library card, you may use a SAM guest pass to use a computer.  It will have a barcode and four digit PIN number.

If you forget your PIN, you can reset it, but you will need to have an e-mail address registered with the library system.  Otherwise, you will need to ask a staff member for assistance.  If you do not have an e-mail with the library system, or have changed your e-mail address, please update it before July 7th.  You can do this using My CamCat.  Updating your email address

Receive Courtesy Notices Through E-mail

Would you like to receive a reminder when items you’ve checked out are nearly due?  The library now sends courtesy notices to patrons with e-mail accounts they’ve registered with the library. For an item with a 14-day or 21-day loan period, a courtesy notice is sent three days before it is due.  An item with a 7-day loan period has a notice sent two days before the due date.

If you would like to receive courtesy notices and currently receive overdue or hold notices through the U.S. mail, you can easily make the change to receive e-mail notices instead.  (Note:  you can receive either e-mail or print notices, but not both.)  Here are the steps to make the change:

  1. Go to My CamCat in the catalog: http://iii.camden.lib.nj.us/patroninfo
  2. Enter your name and library card number.
  3. Click on Modify Personal Info.
  4. Enter your e-mail address in the e-mail field.

For patrons who check their e-mail regularly, e-mail notices are very convenient.  For those who check their e-mail only sporadically, print notices are a better alternative.

If you have a spam filter on your computer, add this address to your “safe” list: circadm@iii.camden.lib.nj.us
